Whistler Blackcomb Celebrates Best Of Both Worlds With Dual-Sport Race.

Spring has sprung at Whistler Blackcomb which marks a special time of year. The transition from winter to summer operations means guests have the choice of spring skiing and riding or mountain biking on Whistler Mountain. To celebrate, hero dirt lovers and spring skiing and riding enthusiasts assemble for Whistler Blackcomb’s annual Crud 2 Mud race presented by Kokanee. The event will take place on Saturday, May 23, combining two seasonal sports into one race.

“Spring in Whistler is a very special time where we get to embrace the best of both seasons,” says Sebastien Freemont, Events Manager at Whistler Blackcomb. “The Crud 2 Mud race is the perfect way to celebrate the transition from winter to summer. It wraps up the skiing and riding season while ringing in the new bike season.”

This year boasts an extended dual-sport season at Whistler Blackcomb. The Whistler Mountain Bike Park opened a full two weeks ahead of schedule on May 2 and the spring skiing and riding season on Whistler Mountain has been extended to June 7.

During the Crud 2 Mud race, competitors ski or snowboard from the top of Whistler Mountain to the bottom of the snow line where their bikes and equipment lay waiting. Here racers either collect their bikes or tag off to their teammate and continue on through the Whistler Mountain Bike Park.

The event is recommended for strong intermediate to expert skiers, snowboarders and mountain bikers. Due to recent warming temperatures and the ever-changing snow conditions, the final course route will be announced at a mandatory racer meeting on May 22 at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC) at 6:00 p.m.

Pre-registration is mandatory and is available through Whistler Blackcomb Guest Services, online or by calling 1.800.766.0449. Competitors who register before midnight on May 16 save $10 off the registration fee.
