MEC Vancouver Paddlefest 2014

Mountain Equipment Co-op presents the 8th annual MEC Paddlefest. This year’s festivities will be taking place on Saturday July 5 at Jericho Beach from 9:00am – 5:00pm. MEC Paddlefest is Vancouver’s summer destination for all things paddling, conservation and active living. Canada has countless rivers, lakes and oceans to explore and Paddlefest is where you can learn and develop the skills to kick off your summer’s adventures. Last year, over 5000 people attended MEC Paddlefest and attendance is expected to grow for this year’s festival.

Admission to MEC Paddlefest is free of charge with optional paid & free clinics. MEC are proud to have the city’s best stand up paddleboard, ocean kayak, yoga and camp skills instructors from Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak, Ecomarine Paddlesports Centre, Sea Kayak Association of BC, SKILS, Outward Bound and MEC’s very own instructors providing clinics throughout the day for all ages and abilities.

Warren Springer, Festival Director said “The goal with MEC Paddlefest has always been to bring together the local community with professional paddlers, vendors, club members and more for a day of fun on the beach that’s designed for all types of paddlers. It’s going to be an awesome day and I cannot wait!” Clinics are held on a variety of safety and technique related topics. Novices will find helpful information and a chance to give a new sport a try, whilst the more experienced paddler will find professional tips & tricks as well as a first-hand look at some of the latest gear.

In additional to clinics, attendees will be able to browse new products from a wide range of exhibitors, demo equipment as well as MEC’s legendary Paddleswap & silent auction where you can pick up previously loved paddling, hiking and camping gear. There will of course be music, games, food and competitions throughout the day!
