All day-use fees will be waived at Ontario Parks on July 17, 2015 to celebrate Healthy Parks Healthy People.
The global movement supported by Ontario Parks and many Canadian health organizations suggests that regular visits to natural spaces can lower blood pressure, boost immune systems and relieve stress.
Special July 17 Healthy Parks Healthy People events will take place at provincial parks across Ontario. Take a guided hike on a section of the Coastal Trail at Lake Superior Provincial Park. Join a free Yoga, Zumba or Tai Chi class on a park beach. Learn to fish and much more. Below is a small sample of the July 17 events planned. More are listed on the Ontario Parks Calendar of Events.
Certified yoga instructors will lead free Yoga on the Beach sessions at Wasaga Provincial Park. Two sessions, one for adults and one for kids and guardians, will run at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Both are 45 minutes long. No experience or equipment is required.
Interested in a backcountry canoe trip in Algonquin Provincial Park? Don't know where to start? Join an expert tripper for an afternoon workshop at the park's Whitefish Lake Group Campground. This hands-on event will cover everything from canoes to food to the do’s and don’ts of backcountry camping. Algonquin also plans a guided Spruce Bog morning hike and an afternoon biking event for kids on the Old Railway Bike Trail. Evening events include a guided Mizzy Lake Trail walk to search for wildlife tracks and an Outdoor Theatre program on the positive effects of connecting with nature.
Go fishing at Emily Provincial Park near Peterborough and Lindsay. Park staff will lead a Learn to Fish lesson that covers tackle, Ontario fish species and safety tips. Two-hour fishing licenses and equipment are provided. Free Learn to Fish lessons are offered at many Ontario Parks.
