Recycling Polyester:

Recycled polyester consumes up to 75% less crude oil than new polyester, and diverts waste from landfills. We’d like recycled polyester garments to become the new norm, much as we want organic cotton to replace conventionally grown.

You can help in two ways:

1. Help create demand for recycled polyester.
Look for, ask for, and buy recycled poly products.

2. Use MEC’s new Garment Recycling Program.
Bring your clean, used polyester garments to any MEC store. We’ll recycle them into new items.

TIP #11 “ “When my partner and I go on overnight hiking trips, we make sure that all of our electronic devices are powered by either human-generated energy or rechargeable batteries. We take a wind-up radio, and use rechargeable batteries in our digital cameras, headlamps and tent lantern. This way we are eliminating any batteries from recycling depots or landfills, and keeping the land we have camped on clean!” ” — Brigitte Mah
